33. Select the People Worthy of your Story
Wednesday Feb 16, 2022
Wednesday Feb 16, 2022
All we want is to be ourselves, in life and in acting. My greatest lesson learned, over and over and over again is that being vulnerable being unafraid of who you are, requires to be selective with the people who are worthy of that, of you, of your story in life and in acting.
I imagine the experience of being on my back in the silky water of the Mediterranean, looking up at the most beautiful light and sky and feeling one with the universe, feeling sufficient, feeling the most myself and at ease. To experience is what we all search for and the profession that will teach how to do it fully is Acting. Any body can take away from the powerful lessons of acting. They teach us how to live how to be, without having to prove our stories' values and worthiness. So take ownership of you story's power and who you are. Ultimately that is all we want, no matter the profession we are in, we want to matter and when we know that we do, we all change the world!

32. Method to the Madness
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
There is a Madness to the Madness - The formula, I believe, that brings Actors to the Oscars is the same that wins over audiences! Years of teaching acting have taught me to concretely observe and experience the techniques that work. They are the same that win nominations and also win over audiences. Here they are: Private Moment, Significant Objects, Detailed Behavior, Using Personal Experiences, Raising Up to the Character, No Judgement of the Character, for now!

31. ACTORS Make Better DIRECTORS
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Live fully, live boldly. I have come back from living in a 3 hour class, as much as 6 months in everyday life.
A great example of that is the film 'Tick, Tick ...Boom!' directed by the actor, here first time director, Lin-Manuel Miranda. Based on the autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson played by Andrew Garfield. My God do we have something to learn as people first, and artists second, to keep on believing in our passion, not matter the sacrifices and no matter what that may be.
Understanding the actors work as a director is without measure. I am inspired by my student in Directing Actors class, at SVA, courageous enough to do that. More directors should.
Being bold and living fully is required of actors at all times, so when the directors ask them to pull back, they have something to pull back from.

30. Acting Is Life and Vice Versa
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
30 Episodes. On to more, let's go!!! I can not believe it. One season of my podcast. One season of learnings, trials, improvements, discoveries to guide me, my guests to hopefully continue on to make it more entertaining for the listeners. Acting is Life and I believe they both inform each other and in the process make us better! As people and as actors.
Method or not, Sir. Anthony Hopkins talks about his craft, about The Actors Studio, about his best actor winning role in the exceptional film The Father, on The Late Show with Sthephen Colbert. It is the perfect episode to finish this 1st season. This episode was one of the first I recorded and could not publish it as a conversation. So what did I do creatively!? I changed it into a monologue from what used to be, a dialogue a scene. Meaning, I had it as a conversation between myself and another person, later I had to keep only my comments. Instead of giving up on it, I thought how can I solve this and obtain my goal? Creatively, as a person I learned from what a character might do, to obtain the goal and overcome obstacles. And that is when I thought, I can make it be a monologue. Here again, characters teach us how to navigate everyday life. They teach us that everything is possible if we dare to try. They have no choice but to keep trying or the film, the play would not go on. So must we, keep on, go on!
Thank you for listening to the first Season and I hope you will continue to join us for Season 2.

29. Recalling Encounters with the Greats
Monday Jan 10, 2022
Monday Jan 10, 2022
Having just arrived in New York from Transylvania, I get to become lifetime member of The Actors Studio, and in the process encounter some of the great artists. Seeing the trailer of "Reframed: Marilyn Monroe" a docu-series, on CNN, January 16th, activated my memory to that time, 25 years ago, with James Lipton, Bradley Cooper, Al Pacino, Ellen Burstyn, Estelle Parsons, Arthur Penn... All at once. Boom! The common element is the one and only The Actors Studio. Imagine a young version of me, having just arrived in NY from a small village in Transylvania, ex communist Romania, walking through the doors of the one and only in the world The Actors Studio and seing pictures of incredible artists such as Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, James Dean and many more all associated with this unique place and it legagy. And I am a member. I was in, shock. I still am. To say the least!

28. Pavlov Dog Theory on Humans
Monday Jan 03, 2022
Monday Jan 03, 2022
Russian scientist Ivan Pavlov conditioned his dogs to associate the sound of a bell with food...at the same time Stanislavsky was looking for conscious means to control our reactions as actors. We as actors can be and are trained to feel certain emotions, stimulated by sounds, touches and the rest of our senses. As I demonstrate here, it takes me trying three different sounds to make the emotions arise.
Ari Melber on The Beat a program on MSNBC interviews Sharon Stone and asks the wrong question as do majority of people who misunderstand acting: You have to become another character!? No Ari, Sharon Stone could have corrected him, we tap into the myriad of different characters we all have as complex humans and choose the necessary ones for the specific role. That is the art in the actors. Normal people can get away with presenting one or two but actors need to present hundreds to keep the audiences engaged and do justice to the roles.

27. Actors Make The Best Detectives!
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
Tuesday Dec 14, 2021
Wearing my significant object that brings my childhood alive in communist Romania, applied to stimulate my senses and imagination to obtain emotion for character, this episode 27 is about the boldness of creativity and more specific of the team sharing a story such as the documentary on Netflix. Now that is to dare and "go there"! The documentary to watch is "Don't F--k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer", warning, warning, warning... as it is one of the most talked about, disturbing true-crime shows I have ever seen. Unbearable to watch as it holds up the mirror to the most gruesome part of our humanity in Luka Magnotta. I was shocked, wanted to turn away but could not as I followed the hunt by the internet sleuths, and their specific detective work, that finally helped the police. Their fight in getting justice for the horrific crimes and finally aiding the police into doing so is beyond words. To see this seemingly normal person, a wanna be actor at first, get to the lowest of humanity, is shocking. Why am I doing this episode on this documentary!? Because from the perspective of an acting coach I was so surprised to see the internet detectives analyze and use methods so specific to understanding psychology and human behavior similar to the ones we use in analyzing the character we play as actors. That led me to understand how the training of actors and its tools is used in finding, in this particular documentary, a killer and prevent him from becoming a serial killer. It is beyond scary but needed to be told in hope that it could prevent others from getting away with it and event prevent it from happening if only the sleuths were given the attention by the police when they stated their concerns. If only...

24. No Shame to Collaborate, Smart Actors, Directors Work With ACTING COACHES!
Saturday Nov 13, 2021
Saturday Nov 13, 2021
"Your Position as an Acting Coach does not Exist", I was told. Even when the proof of my work contribution was already in the Successes of the Films. Creative Collaboration is what creates success. No matter, some individuals and their insecurities plus fear will deny it. Form known to unknown celebrities, they have insecurities in mentioning their Acting Coaches, out loud! Fear is at the base of it all.
